In today's online issue of Oil and Gas Journal, Independent Petroleum Association of America President Barry Russell took House of Representatives Democrats to task for their "use it or lose it" bill and their "...grandstanding and using illegitimate reports about American oil and natural gas businesses that continue the stranglehold on new, American energy supplies." Mr. Russell appealed to the House leader Nancy Pelosi to fulfill her pledge from 11/2 years ago to run an open and honest legislative process when the Democrats gained control of the House. He also reminded the Speaker that she had pledged at that time to bring down the price of fuel. Russell said "Congress, today, does not allow access to the federal lands that contain vast supplies of American energy. Most land is simply off-limits. We must develop these available energy resources as one element of curing America's energy problems. Only Congress has this power."
As we all know, President George Bush vacated the executive order that banned drilling on the Outer Continental Shelf and in the eighteen days since that recission, the Democrat Congress has only done one thing: adjourned to go on vacation.
